Buffy the Vampire Slayer was written by Joss Whedon and directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui and released in 1992. Joss had little control over the movie once his script had been sold and the production company made changes to the tone and content of the original script leading Joss to finally walk off the set. His original script was later turned into a comic, The Origin, which stayed much closer in tone and content and is considered canon.
